The Board of Park Commissioners has adopted bylaws and rules as prescribed in ORC Chapter 1545.09 for the preservation of good order within and adjacent to its parks and reservations of land, and for the protection and preservation of the parks, parkways, and other reservations of land under its jurisdiction and control; and rules establishing procedures for contracting for professional, technical, consulting, and other special services.
The MVPD has undergone significant changes in leadership and management philosophy throughout its 20+ year history; however, our mission “Enriching the quality of life of Muskingum County residents by conserving natural areas, providing passive and active recreational opportunities, and developing an appreciation of the natural, historical and cultural heritage of the area,” has prevailed.
Parks are a tangible reflection of the quality of life in a community. They provide gathering places for families and social groups, as well as for individuals of all ages and economic status. Parks add value to communities that transcend the amount of dollars invested, while providing residents a sense of public pride and cohesion. The MVPD owns hundreds of acres of open space and park lands, and nearly 10 miles of paved multi-use recreational trails in Muskingum County. These spaces offer a glimpse into the cultural and natural history of our community.
